Summer Camp Activities With A Halloween Twist

Written By: happycamper

Love summer camp and Halloween? With a little creativity, you can combine the best of both worlds—outdoor summer fun and Halloween spookiness—for unforgettable camp memories. Whether it’s for a themed week or a one-day celebration, these activities are sure to thrill your campers.

Try these Halloween summer camp activities!

kids wearing monster face paintMonster Relay Races

Turn your regular relay races into a monster mash! Have campers dress up in simple costumes or face paint as their favorite monsters—think mummies, zombies, or vampires. Create a spooky obstacle course where they crawl through “spider webs” (made from yarn), jump over “graves” (foam tombstones), and dash through a foggy “graveyard” (fog machines or dry ice can add a fun effect).

Tip: Make it a team competition where groups of campers create their own monster theme and cheer each other on with creepy chants or howls!

Ghostly Glow-in-the-Dark Capture the Flag

Take capture the flag to the next level with a glow-in-the-dark, haunted forest version. Play after dark using glow sticks to mark boundaries and “flags,” and have campers wear glow-in-the-dark paint or bracelets. For an extra Halloween twist, let “captured” players re-enter the game as spooky “ghosts” who can tag opponents but can’t be caught themselves.

Tip: Use dim lighting or string up LED Halloween lights to make the atmosphere eerie, while keeping the game safe.

campfireHaunted Campfire Stories

Every camp has a campfire tradition, so why not make it haunted? Gather around the fire at night and take turns telling spooky (but not too scary) stories. You can kick it off with classic tales like “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” or “The Ghost of the Forest.” Have some spooky sound effects—like howling wind or distant wolf calls—to set the mood.

Tip: Let the kids write their own short spooky stories ahead of time to share. Provide prompts like “the haunted campsite” or “the mystery of the missing marshmallow.”

Mummy Wrap Game

Instead of the typical water balloon toss or sack races, try a mummy wrap game. Divide campers into teams and give each team a roll of toilet paper. One camper on each team gets “mummified” as their teammates wrap them up in toilet paper from head to toe. The first team to completely wrap their mummy wins!

Tip: Play spooky music to make the game feel like a monster race against time. You can also make the game into a relay, where the mummy has to race to the finish line before falling apart.

Spider Web Dodgeball

Transform your standard dodgeball game into a web-slinging challenge! Create a “spider web” using strings of yarn crisscrossing the playing field. Campers must avoid getting tangled in the web while dodging balls. To give it a spooky feel, call the dodgeballs “spider eggs” that they need to avoid at all costs!

Tip: Add a large spider prop hanging over the field for decoration and extra thrills!

Adding a summer camp twist to your Halloween activities is a fun way to blend the playful elements of Halloween with the adventure of summer camp for an unforgettable experience!
