Being a kid isn’t always as easy as adults make it out to be. Here at Happy Camper we know that you face many pressures and have lots of responsibilities. Between getting up early for a full day, homework, after school practices, keeping up with your friends all while being sure you follow the rules…life can be overwhelming at times. There isn’t one person who couldn’t use some downtime and relaxation.
Our camp classes give you the outlet you need to take a break from it all and have a good time. There is so much to choose from! Today we want to focus on our amazing dance and yoga classes and let you know about their benefits for stress relief.
Have you ever heard your parents say something like, “How do these kids have so much energy?!” Dance is an excellent way to channel it. Not only is dance great for fitting in some physical activity, it’s an excellent way to brighten your day! The best part is, there is no right or wrong way to dance…and you don’t need to worry about being good or bad at it. Dancing is about individual expression.
Find some music you love, turn it up, and let yourself be free. Whether you prefer to be alone or like to dance with your family or friends, your mood will immediately be lifted. Check out Porch.com’s blog to learn How To Create The Perfect Dance Studio In Your Home. For some inspiration, check out our dance camps at Happy Camper!
Larry, our self-proclaimed “hip-hop Happy Camper guru” offers up popular dances with a twist! Before you know it you’ll be movin’ and groovin’ your cares away.
Chances are tap is a type of dance you’ve never tried before. No time like now to give it a shot! Counselor Nicole does an excellent job of breaking down the steps for you. Don’t have tap shoes? Not to worry. The clickety-click is certainly a bonus, but not required. Once you’ve learned the different steps, don’t be afraid to give it your own flair. That’s what dancing happily is all about.
If you don’t want to take our word for it, dance is scientifically proven to lift your spirits. So find your dance of choice and go boogie!
In recent years, yoga for kids has gained popularity. And for good reason! It is a great way for you to relax and escape the pressures of being a kid. On top of that, yoga teaches calming techniques that can carry over to stressful situations. It’s more that just putting your body into the shape of a pretzel!
Just like all our classes at Happy Camper Live, you don’t have to go anywhere special to practice yoga. We recommend finding a quiet place free from distraction. Calming music can be a great addition as well.
Once you find some different yoga poses you like, be sure to focus on your breathing. Slow, deep and controlled is the way to go. While in your relaxed posture, work on calming your mind. Try to think of something positive or that makes you happy.
Not sure where to begin? Happy Camper camp counselor Lindsey will lead you through a series of postures designed to help you relax so you can face anything that comes your way. Through breathing and calming techniques, Lindsey will guide you through many postures including:
The benefits of yoga are built up over time. Getting started is the hardest part. Once you do, we know this is a routine that will help you through all the stressful parts of being a kid.
