Packing For Summer Camp 2022

Written By: happycamper

If you’ve signed up your child for sleepaway camp, it’s time to start figuring out what you need to pack for summer camp. With a little preparation, packing for summer camp can be stress free.

First, contact your summer camp director and ask if they have a recommended packing list. You don’t want to miss the ssentials, but you also don’t want to overpack so you child’s space is cluttered. The list could change from year to year depending on camp activities, so it’s best to check in early. Once you have that list, you’ll have a better idea of what to send your child to camp with. If your camp doesn’t have a list, read on for suggested summer camp items.

The Essentials

Think bedding. A mattress pad will add a little extra comfort to tranditional bunks. Bring a blanket, sheets, sleeping bag, pillow and pillow case, a laundry bag, and towels (regular and beach).

Bathroom Kit

Most cabins won’t have their own shower, so a shower caddy will come in handy as will a pair of flip flops that your child will use as they make their way to the showers. Don’t forget shampoo, soap, toothpaste, a toothbrush, deodorant, and a hairbrush or comb. Other nice things to have include bug spray, sunscreen, and an anti-itch ointment in case they get a bug bite.

Clothing & Shoes

What you pack depends on the kind of camp. If it’s a sports camp, you will want to focus on comfortable attire appropriate for that sport. In general, pack t-shirts, tank tops, shorts, long pants, jeans, a jacket, raincoat, sweatshirt, sweatpants, pajamas, underwear, swimsuit, sneakers, hiking boots, flipflops/sandals, hats, and lots of socks!

Extras

These items may make your time more comfortable. Bring a flashlight with batteries, stationery and stamps to write home, electronics and chargers, books, a reusable water bottle, fan, and medications or special dietary foods (as applicable). Don’t forget the emergency contact sheet and list of allergies and medications! Happy packing.
