Kid-Friendly Pool Party Games and Activities

Written By: happycamper

There’s nothing quite like a splash-filled day in the sun to make summer memories! If you’re planning a pool party for your campers, kids, or family friends, you’ll want to have a few fun games and activities up your sleeve to keep everyone entertained and safe.

Whether you’re hosting a birthday bash, a camp pool day, or just a casual summer hangout, these kid-friendly pool party games and activities will make a big splash!

Treasure Hunt Dive

Toss a handful of dive toys—like rings, coins, or colorful gems—into the pool and challenge kids to collect as many as they can. Make it a team race or an individual challenge. If doing it individually, you can time their rounds to see if they improve as they go on. For younger swimmers, place the treasures in the shallow end for easier access.

Tip: Use pool-safe, non-slip toys and always supervise diving games.

Give each kid a pool noodle and let the races begin! Whether they’re paddling across the pool or riding the noodles like seahorses, this silly race gets everyone moving and giggling.

Variation: Try a relay race or obstacle course using pool floats, noodles, and rings.

This classic tag game is perfect for a pool setting. One kid is the “shark” while the others are “minnows” who must swim from one side of the pool to the other without getting tagged. If they’re caught, they become sharks too!

Safety Note: Make sure all players are confident swimmers, and consider a shallow-end version for younger kids.

Water Balloon Toss

No pool party is complete without a water balloon activity (outside of the pool)! Fill up a bucket of water balloons and let kids pair up to gently toss them back and forth, taking a step backward each time. First team to drop their balloon is out.

Dry zone idea: This game is perfect for poolside play for kids who may not want to get in the water.

Freeze Splash

This game is like freeze dance—but in the water! Play music and have kids dance, splash, and swim around. When the music stops, they have to freeze. Anyone who moves is out (or just gets a silly challenge instead).

To keep things safe and fun, always have plenty of sunscreen (if the pool is outdoors), life vests or floaties for beginner swimmers, and plenty of adult supervision. And don’t forget the summer playlist and tasty treats—popsicles are always a hit!
