Science
Bring the magic of winter indoors with this fun and simple science experiment! Making fake snow is an engaging way to teach kids about the science of absorption and chemical reactions while sparking their creativity.
Materials You’ll Need: Baking soda (about 2 cups), white hair conditioner (about 1/3 cup), a large mixing bowl, and a spoon or spatula.
Measure Your Ingredients: Start by pouring 2 cups of baking soda into the mixing bowl.
Add Conditioner: Slowly mix in about 1/3 cup of white hair conditioner. Stir until the mixture starts to mix together.
Adjust as Needed: If the snow feels too dry, add a tiny bit more conditioner. If it’s too wet, sprinkle in more baking soda. The final texture should feel light, fluffy, and cool to the touch—just like real snow! If you have glitter at home, you can add some for a little sparkle. Have fun playing with your fake snow! Shape your snow into snowballs, tiny snowmen, or whatever your imagination dreams up!

This experiment works because baking soda is a powdery substance that absorbs the moisture from the conditioner, creating a pliable, snow-like material. The combination mimics the texture of snow while being safe for kids to touch and mold.
