Plug in “special needs summer camp” and your city and state into an internet search site to see what comes up nearby. Do your research though. The first results that come up may not be the ones you should automatically go with. It helps to also look for reviews of camps online too so you can be fully informed.
If you’re struggling to find a special needs camp, reach out to other summer camps in the area. Camp directors often network with other camps, so they may be able to refer you to a special needs summer camp in your area. When you reach out give as many specifics as you can, so they can steer you in the right direction.
Once you find a camp you think might be right for your child, schedule a time to speak with the camp director. Have a list of questions ready for your call with them, so you can have a full picture of what to expect when you drop your child off at camp. You need to feel comfortable with the summer camp you choose, so be as informed as possible.
Summer camp is an amazing experience most kids will remember forever. Finding the right one is a process. Take your time and find the one that will be best for your child.
