How Do You Make Thanksgiving Fun For Kids?

Written By: happycamper

Thanksgiving is all about family, gratitude, and delicious food. But for kids, it can sometimes feel a little slow or even boring between the meal preparations and adult conversations.

Here are some fun, kid-friendly activities to help make Thanksgiving a hit for everyone!

Thanksgiving craftsGet Creative with a Thanksgiving Craft Station

Set up a crafting table where kids can make Thanksgiving decorations. Supply colored paper, markers, stickers, and feathers to create turkeys, pilgrim hats, or even personalized name cards for the dinner table. Learn how to make turkey crafts for kids.

Host a Mini Thanksgiving Parade

Take a cue from the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and let the kids create their own! With homemade instruments, colorful streamers, and their favorite stuffed animals, they can have fun putting on a show for the family.

Set Up a Thanksgiving Scavenger Hunt

Hide Thanksgiving-themed items around the house or yard, such as mini pumpkins, leaves, or small turkey figurines. Create a checklist and send the kids on a hunt to find everything while the food is cooking.

Start a Gratitude Tree

Set up a small tree with bare branches (a twig arrangement in a vase works, too) and have each child write something they’re thankful for on a leaf-shaped cutout. They can attach these to the tree throughout the day, creating a beautiful display of gratitude.

Hold a Thanksgiving Day Talent Show

Let each child (and willing adult!) showcase a special talent. It could be a song, dance, a funny skit, or even a magic trick. It’s a great way to entertain everyone and adds lots of laughs to the holiday.

Get the kids involved in the baking process by letting them help with dessert. Try making mini pumpkin pies, cookies, or decorate some turkey-shaped sugar cookies. They’ll enjoy being part of the meal prep, especially when they get to taste their creations!

Create a Thanksgiving Obstacle Course

Clear some space and set up a fun obstacle course for the kids to burn off energy. Think crawling under tables, hopping over pillows, or doing a “turkey trot” around the yard. Award prizes or little treats for everyone who completes it.

Organize a Thanksgiving-Themed Movie Marathon

Have a cozy space ready with blankets and pillows, then play some family-friendly Thanksgiving-themed movies or TV specials. This can help keep kids entertained while adults prepare the meal and gives everyone some downtime.

Plan a Storytime of Thanksgiving Tales

Gather some Thanksgiving-themed storybooks or even make up stories to share with the kids. If there’s a family storyteller, have them tell some Thanksgiving memories or funny stories from past holidays.

a family plays bingoPlay Thanksgiving Bingo

Create bingo cards with Thanksgiving-themed images like a turkey, pumpkin, pilgrim hat, corn, etc. Give kids little treats or small prizes for each bingo, or go for a blackout game with a special prize at the end.

Thanksgiving can be as fun and engaging as any holiday with a few special activities planned just for kids. Making memories, sharing laughs, and creating traditions together will keep everyone’s spirits bright and grateful!
