Singing…
“At Happy Camper Live,
It’s summer camp anytime,
Your happy place is always here!”
Oh hey there! I have summer camp on my mind and camp songs I can’t get out of my head. I’m not even mad about it…being a Happy Camper is something I love to be! Honestly, I would go to sleep away camp year-round if I could, but let’s be honest, camping with temps below freezing every night doesn’t exactly sound as nice as my cozy bed when snow is falling outside.
So this morning after I ate breakfast and then read a few chapters of my book, I was bored and kind of wishing I was with my friends. That’s when my mom told me about Happy Camper! She said she signed me up and I could go to camp online in my free time. Year-round! Just like what I’ve always wanted! How cool is that?! It only took her a few minutes to show me how it worked, and lucky for her, I was out of her hair.
Well let’s get to it…my first day of year-round summer camp. I’m just so excited this is a thing!
I gotta say, it was much harder to choose my first class than I thought it would be. They all looked so fun! But then I thought, wait, with a year subscription, I have plenty of time to try everything I want. So I just clicked away!
Since I have my first tap classes coming up at my local rec center, I thought taking the camp tap classes would be a great place to start…might as well learn some techniques ahead of time! I love how the counselor, Nicole, simplified all the steps. Even being brand new to tap, she made it so easy to put the combination together. Toe, heel, toe, heel…stage of The Greatest Showman here I come! Okay, let’s not get ahead of ourselves, but what I love about this camp is that they make you feel like you can do anything. That class finished up just in time for lunch, so I shuffled my way to the kitchen for a ham and cheese. I’ll definitely check out Nicole’s next class tomorrow!
After lunch I 3-counted my way (thanks, Nicole!) back to camp for my first theater class.
Counselor Michael has so much experience on the stage, I knew right away I would be learning a lot from him. With high hopes of belting out, “This is the greatest show…!” while toe-tapping my heart out, I figured it couldn’t hurt to get some real acting experience. What I loved about this first class was that I got to learn how actors prepare behind the scenes. There’s so much important work being done behind the curtain to get everything ready. My favorite part of this class was learning what “break a leg” actually means! Who knew it has nothing to do with wishing your friend ends up in a cast. Phew – thank goodness. If you want to know the story behind the phrase, definitely take Counselor Michael’s awesome acting classes. I can’t wait to learn so much more.
Well friends, those were my classes for today. I’m can’t wait for my second day as a Happy Camper. I already love the community here! In fact, the song I was singing earlier is looking for campers to add some new verses. So off I go to create my very own words…because if you haven’t noticed yet, I love to dance and sing!
