At summer camp, the smell of a campfire, the crackle of the wood, and the thrill of cooking outdoors are some of the best moments. But what if you could add a dash of Halloween magic to your campfire recipes? With a few spooky tweaks, classic campfire favorites can become a highlight of your Halloween-themed campout.
Monster S’moresS’mores are a campfire classic, but with a few haunting details, they can be the star of your Halloween-themed evening.
Ingredients: Graham crackers, chocolate bars or peanut butter cups, marshmallows, green and purple food coloring, and candy eyeballs
Instructions: Toast marshmallows over the campfire until they’re golden brown and gooey. Before placing them on the graham cracker, dip the marshmallow in a mix of green or purple food coloring (be sure the food coloring is edible). Add candy eyeballs to the marshmallow to create a “monster face.” Sandwich the marshmallow between two graham crackers and a piece of chocolate or peanut butter cup.
Turn your regular campfire hot dogs into ghostly treats with this fun twist.
Ingredients: Hot dogs, crescent roll dough, and mustard or ketchup for decorating
Instructions: Wrap the hot dogs in strips of crescent roll dough, leaving gaps where the “face” will show through. Roast them over the campfire or bake them in foil over the coals until the dough is golden. Use mustard or ketchup to create eyes and a mouth, making each hot dog look like a ghostly figure.
Witch’s Brew StewFor a hearty meal with a spooky vibe, try this simple stew cooked right over the campfire.
Ingredients: Pre-cooked sausage or chicken, canned black beans (for the “spooky” color), diced potatoes, carrots, green peppers, chicken or vegetable broth, spices: garlic, onion powder, salt, pepper, and hot sauce for a “witch’s kick”
Instructions: In a large campfire-safe pot, combine the sausage or chicken, black beans, potatoes, carrots, and green peppers. Pour in enough broth to cover the ingredients and sprinkle your favorite spices on top. Let the mixture simmer over the campfire for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve hot and call it “Witch’s Brew Stew” for an extra Halloween touch!
This simple, no-cook snack is perfect for late-night ghost stories by the fire.
Ingredients: Pretzel sticks (call them “bones”), mini marshmallows (as “ghostly bites”), gummy worms (for a spooky touch), chocolate chips, raisins, candy corn (to make it Halloween-themed)
Instructions: Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl or bag. Hand out portions to campers as you tell your best campfire ghost stories!
These fun and spooky recipes will add a memorable twist to your next summer camp experience. Whether you’re toasting marshmallows for a monster s’more or enjoying a hearty bowl of Witch’s Brew Stew, these recipes will delight campers of all ages.
