Valentine’s Day is the perfect time for kids to get creative and spread love with fun, hands-on crafts! These five easy Valentine’s Day crafts will have kids of all ages excited to show their artistic side. Best of all, these crafts use simple materials you probably already have on hand.
Make Valentine’s Day CardsGet a jump on the classroom Valentine’s Day cards and save money by making your own. Use items from around your home such as construction paper, newspaper, scraps of ribbon or fabric, and get to creating. You’ll also need glue and scissors.
You’ll need construction paper, markers, and scissors. Fold a piece of construction paper in half and trace the child’s hand with their pinky finger on the folded edge. Cut out the hand shape, making sure not to cut along the fold. When opened, the hands create a heart shape in the center. Kids can decorate the card with sweet messages or drawings.
A paper chain of hearts makes a fun decoration for your bedroom or classroom. Grab some construction paper in your preferred color (red and pink give a Valentine’s Day pop!), glue or tape, and scissors. Cut strips of paper in red, pink, and white. Fold each strip in half and curl the ends inward to form a heart shape. Use glue or tape to secure the ends together and link them to other hearts to create a chain.
You’ll need cupcake liners, straws or craft sticks, buttons, and glue. Layer cupcake liners of different sizes and colors to create flower petals. Glue them together and add a button in the center. Attach the flower to a straw or craft stick for the stem. Kids can make a whole bouquet to give to someone special like a teacher or family member.
Valentine’s Day BookmarkGrab some cardstock, markers, ribbon, and stickers.
Cut out rectangles from colorful cardstock to create the base of the bookmark. Let kids decorate them with markers, Valentine-themed stickers, and heartfelt messages. Punch a hole at the top and tie a piece of ribbon through it for a finishing touch. If you have a lamination machine at home, you can laminate it to make it extra sturdy, but not required! Then encourage your kids to pick up a book and read for the evening.
