Planning a summer picnic with kids? Whether it’s at the park, the backyard, or a campsite, keeping little ones happy and active is the key to a great day.
Sack Races (or Pillowcase Hop)Grab a few old pillowcases or fabric sacks and let the kids hop their way to the finish line!
How to play: Mark a start and finish line. Kids step into the sack and hop to the end. First one to the finish wins!
Tip: It’s even funnier with teams or relay races!
This classic game never gets old.
You’ll need: Spoons (big ones for little kids) and plastic eggs or real ones (hard-boiled to avoid mess!)
How to play: Each player balances an egg on a spoon and walks carefully to the finish line. Drop it? Back to the start!
Water Balloon TossPerfect for hot days and belly laughs.
How to play: Pair up and stand close. Toss the balloon gently to your partner. With each successful catch, take a step back. Keep tossing until it pops!
Great for getting the giggles out!
How to play: Kids form pairs and leap over each other down the field. First team to the end wins—or just play for fun!
Turn your picnic blanket into a mini parachute!
How to play: Have kids and adults hold the edges of the blanket. Toss lightweight balls, stuffed animals, or leaves onto it. Bounce them up and down for fun!
Picnics are the perfect chance for kids to run, laugh, and make summer memories that last. Try a few of these games at your next outing, and you’ll have happy (and tired!) little campers by the end of the day.
