The Fourth of July is all about family, fun, and of course—festive food! If you’re looking for a way to get your kids involved in the celebration, why not head into the kitchen together?
Patriotic Fruit KabobsWhat You Need: Strawberries (halved), blueberries, marshmallows, and skewers.
Instructions:
Let your kids alternate threading strawberries, blueberries, and marshmallows onto skewers. Create a pattern or let them get creative! These are a hit at BBQs and make for a light, refreshing snack.
Tip: Use wooden skewers with blunt tips for younger kids.
What You Need: Plain popped popcorn, red and blue candy melts, and patriotic sprinkles.
Instructions:
Melt the candy melts and drizzle over popcorn laid out on a baking sheet. Let your kids scatter sprinkles over the top before it sets. Once it hardens, break into clusters and serve in festive cups or bags.
No-Bake Berry ParfaitsWhat You Need: Vanilla yogurt or whipped topping, blueberries, strawberries (chopped), crushed graham crackers or granola, and clear cups or mason jars.
Instructions:
Kids can layer yogurt, fruit, and crumbs in their cups to create red, white, and blue stripes. It’s a fun, mess-free snack—and great for breakfast too!
What You Need: Rice Krispie Treat mix (butter, marshmallows, cereal) or premade Rice Krispies, red and blue food coloring, and white chocolate or frosting.
Instructions:
Make three small batches: dye one red, one blue, and leave one plain. Press each color into a pan to form “stripes.” Once cooled, drizzle with white chocolate or frosting for a flag-inspired finish. Let the kids do the pressing and decorating—sticky hands guaranteed!
Sugar CookiesWhat You Need: Sugar cookie ingredients or store-bought sugar cookie package, star cookie cutters, white frosting, food coloring in red white and blue, and sprinkles.
Instructions:
Make the sugar cookies. Cut them into fun Fourth of July shapes like stars. Mix the food coloring with the white frosting. Let the kids decorate the cookies with frosting and sprinkles.
Cooking with kids doesn’t have to be complicated. These festive treats are a great way to teach basic kitchen skills, encourage creativity, and most importantly—make lasting holiday memories. So put on some tunes, pull out the sprinkles, and celebrate Independence Day the sweet (and sticky!) way.
