The winter holidays are a magical time, especially for kids. Add a sprinkle of joy and a dash of creativity to the season by whipping up some easy holiday treats together. Whether you’re at camp or at home, these recipes are simple, festive, and fun to make with kids of all ages.
Winter-Themed: Melted Snowman CookiesWhat You’ll Need: Sugar cookies (store-bought or homemade), white frosting, marshmallows, mini chocolate chips, icing or orange candy.
How to Make Them: Spread white frosting over the sugar cookie to mimic melted snow. Place a marshmallow slightly off-center to be the snowman’s “head.” Add mini chocolate chips for eyes and buttons. Use orange icing or a small candy to create a carrot nose. You can use extra icing or candy to create other accessories like mittens or scarves. Enjoy your frosty creation!
What You’ll Need: Pretzel rods, melted chocolate of your choice, mini pretzels, red candy, and candy eyes.
How to Make Them: Dip one end of the pretzel rod into the melted chocolate. While the chocolate is still wet, stick two mini pretzels on the sides for antlers. Add candy eyes and a red candy for the nose. Let them set on wax paper until hardened. These sweet-and-salty reindeer treats are quick to make and they are cute to share. This is a fun gift for teachers, neighbors, or friends.
Holiday Popcorn MixWhat You’ll Need: Popped popcorn, white chocolate, holiday sprinkles, mini marshmallows, and festive candies like M&Ms in red and green for Christmas or blue and white for winter.
How to Make It: Spread popped popcorn on a baking sheet. Drizzle melted white chocolate over the popcorn. Toss in marshmallows, candies, and sprinkles while the chocolate is still warm. Let it cool, then break into pieces for a sweet and salty snack. Turn on your favorite winter movie, snuggle up in a warm blanket, and enjoy this holiday popcorn mix with the family.
The great thing about these holiday recipes is that they don’t take long to make and the kids can be involved in the process. Cooking together can bring you closer and teach kids skills they can use the rest of their lives. Try one or all of these recipes for your next holiday gathering or on a cozy day at home!
