Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, togetherness, and creativity—and what better way to celebrate than with a touch of nature? At Happy Camper Live, we believe every day can feel like camp, even at home!
Whether your kids are collecting leaves on a fall walk or crafting pinecone turkeys, these ideas turn simple materials into beautiful table decorations that capture the season’s spirit.
Turn fallen leaves into artistic prints! Collect leaves of different shapes and sizes, dip them into fabric paint, and press them onto plain cloth napkins. Once dry, you’ll have a set of reusable napkins that bring nature right to the table.
Camp Tip: Choose autumn colors like gold, red, and orange for a cozy Thanksgiving look.
Pinecones make perfect place card holders! Simply tuck a name card between the scales or glue a small tag to the top. You can even paint the tips of the pinecones white or gold for a festive touch.
Bonus Idea: Add a tiny paper feather to turn each pinecone into a mini “turkey” guest.
Acorn Candle HoldersGather acorns and a few small glass jars. Fill the jars with acorns, then place a tea light on top. These natural candle holders give your Thanksgiving table a warm, rustic glow.
Safety Reminder: Use battery-operated candles for a kid-safe version!
Have your kids collect twigs, leaves, and berries on a fall walk. Arrange them in a mason jar or vase filled with sand or small stones to create a simple, nature-inspired centerpiece.
Camp Tip: Add a few paper leaves where family members can write what they’re thankful for.
Grateful GarlandHelp kids reflect on gratitude by creating a “Thankful Garland.” Cut out leaf shapes from colored paper and write one thing you’re thankful for on each. Use twine and clothespins or paper clips to hang the leaves across the table or mantel.
Nature Twist: Mix real leaves into your garland for a more authentic outdoor feel!
Thanksgiving is the perfect time to combine creativity, family fun, and appreciation for nature. These crafts encourage kids to connect with the outdoors and add a handmade touch to your celebration. Plus, they make great conversation starters around the table!
When you craft together, you’re doing more than decorating—you’re building memories that last a lifetime.
• Use natural materials: Leaves, twigs, pinecones, and acorns make beautiful, sustainable décor.
• Encourage creativity: Let kids design and personalize their own Thanksgiving decorations.
• Connect with nature: Collect materials during a fall walk or backyard adventure.
• Celebrate gratitude: Incorporate thankfulness into your crafts for extra meaning.
• Bring camp home: Keep the camp spirit alive with hands-on, outdoor-inspired fun.
