Beat The Heat: Ways To Stay Cool This Summer

Written By: happycamper

Summer is the best time for sunshine, outdoor adventures, and camp fun—but when the weather gets extra hot, it’s important to stay cool so you can keep having a blast all day long!

Here are some of our favorite ways to beat the heat at camp (and at home!).

There’s nothing better than getting soaked on a hot day! At camp, we love water balloon tosses, slip ‘n slides, sponge races, and sprinkler tag. Ask your family or neighbors to help you set up a backyard splash zone. Even a hose or bucket of water can turn into hours of fun! Another option is to check out local splash pads or community pools near you.

Chill Snacks

Cool off from the inside out with frozen treats. Try making your own popsicles with juice or yogurt, or freeze grapes, bananas, or watermelon chunks for a refreshing snack. At camp, our go-to is ice-cold watermelon straight from the cooler—so sweet and so cool!

Shade Adventures

The sun may be strong, but shady spots are nature’s air conditioning. Chill under a big tree, set up a hammock, or build a blanket fort in the shade. Even better—go on a nature scavenger hunt in a shady forest trail to stay active and cool.

Mist It Up

Want to feel like you’re walking through a magical cool cloud? Fill a spray bottle with cold water and lightly mist your face and arms. Or make a DIY fan by attaching paper to a stick and waving it for an instant breeze. Campers love turning water bottles into cooling tools!

Dress Cool

What you wear can make a big difference! Choose light-colored, loose-fitting clothes and breathable fabrics like cotton. Don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect your face and eyes from the sun. And always wear sunscreen—staying protected helps keep your skin cool too!

Water is your #1 summer superpower. Always keep a water bottle nearby and take sips throughout the day. Add fruit like lemon or berries to make it extra tasty. Staying hydrated keeps you energized and ready for all your camp activities.

Hot days don’t have to slow you down. With a little creativity and some water-powered fun, you can stay cool, stay safe, and enjoy every moment of your summer adventures. So grab your hat, fill up your water bottle, and let’s beat the heat together!
