Hi Its David from happy camper live. We’re here rocking on the piano. We’re gonna learn some chords. We’re gonna start with a C chord. Now how do you know what a major C chord sounds like? Well there’s two ways to find out. If you don’t know it by heart you very simply start with a C scale. Thumb on the middle C, pinky on the middle C below it and simply walk your fingers out and back down. Now, how do you know what a chord is made of? What is a chord?A chord at its very simplest is the first what we call the route the, third in this case is a E natural and then the fifth otherwise known as the dominant, so root, third, fifth. Therefore you have a C chord. Now this works for all chords no matter what key you are in. And if you always remember if you want to play a major chord it’s first, third, and fifth. Here it is in B flat. And if you have any trouble with a major chord, all you have to do is go back to your scales and count. So if I’m trying to figure out what a B-flat cord is I’m gonna start with the B-flat with my thumb and with my pinky and walk my fingers up. I remember for a major chord I’m gonna remember the magic formula, first, third, fifth. First that’s too that’s three you got a remember that one four and then five and I’m just gonna pick out one three and five and now you have a B-flat major chord. Lastly the great part about chords is they work all over the keyboard. Once you figure out what notes are in a chord, in C we have C, E and G, I can just replace that with any C, E and G in the whole keyboard. I’m David from happy camper live and remember to keep on rocking.
