Hey there campers. I’m your video production counselor, Sam, from Happy Camper Live. Today I’m going to teach you about the green screen. The way a green screen works is a computer goes through, in a process called keying, and takes all the instances of green and deletes them. This leaves your actor in an empty background, giving you the opportunity to put an image or video behind them. It’s important that your actor does not wear anything green, or it will get keyed out. In order to shoot against a green screen, you have to make sure that the green background is evenly lit with no shadows and minimal wrinkles. Now,let’s learn how to key your footage and replace it with an image or video. Start with the clip of your actor against the green screen and an image you want to put behind them. Open Adobe Premiere and import the footage you want. Double click import media to start, select the file, and then click import. Next, drag the clip from the bin to the timeline. Click on the effects tab (or click Window > Effects from the top menu bar). Under effects, search for “key”. Select the clip on the timeline and you’ll see all of the effects in the top left. Drag “color key” to the clip. Color key will then pop up in the top left corner. Now, select the eye dropper tool and click on an area that is green in the background. Next, click the arrow next to Color Tolerance to reveal the slider, and slide it until most of the green is removed. To clear up the rest of the extra green, drag one more color key onto the clip. Again, click the eye dropper and click the green in the background. Again drag the color tolerance slider until the green is gone. Next, we’ll put this clip onto the second video layer by clicking and dragging it up. Click on the project folder and import the background image you selected. To do this, double click the bin, select the image, and click import. Click and drag the file from the bin into the timeline, then click and drag it to extend it all the way to the end of the clip. That’s all there is to it!
