Hey there campers it's Coach Wade Listka with Happy Camper Live. Today we are going to go over passing. There are two parts to passing:Receiving the pass and giving the pass. When you are giving the pass, you want to pass the puck to your teammate’s stick, not their skates or something else. You don’t want the puck to be going between their legs or behind them. You always want to aim for their stick. Passing is kind of like taking a shot. You want to “cup the puck”and push forward. “Cupping the puck”just means keeping the puck flat on the ice. Remember to maintain your hockey stance with your knees bent, shoulder width apart, and have a little flex in your hips. The puck can be to the side or you can keep it in front of you. From the either starting point, draw the puck back and then just push it forward. It helps to treat this puck like it’s an egg and you don’t want to break the egg. When you pass the puck, keep your hands soft, and just push it forward. Draw the puck back, position it on the butt of your stick and then pass it forward. Always look to see where your partner or teammate is so you can get a nice pass to their stick. When you receive the pass, you want to meet the puck out in front of you. Just like giving the pass, you want to use soft hands when receiving it. Make sure you watch it all the way in, then slow it to a stop. If you use hard hands, the puck might bounce off your stick, pop over the top, or go on edge. I hope you learned a little bit from this passing session.
