Hey guys. I’m Larry with Happy Camper Live. I’m your Hip Hop Happy Camper guru. Let’s work on The Glide. Gliding is basically like standing on ice skates while moving and floating across the floor. You want to create an illusion that makes it look effortless. Gliding is sort of a weight shifting transfer. In order to do that, you have to get your feet into the proper positioning. Remember the three P’s: Prep, Push, and Pull. I think it’s easiest to prep from the ball of your foot. From there, push down on the prepped foot. As you push down, push your other foot out to the side. Then, shift your weight from the prepped foot to your other foot, and pull the prepped foot in and slide it to your other foot. Then, prep again. Prep the foot, push down, pull in, and prep again. As you do all this, the illusion you are creating makes you look like you are gliding across the floor on a level plane. You don’t want to look like you are bouncing, because that’s another move called The Float. When doing the Glide, try to keep yourself very level. Practice this a few times, paying attention to your level.Next, try it in a circular pattern. It is the exact same concept and technique, except you are going to move back to front instead of side to side. Your footing is going to be the same foot moving back both times. Left foot back, right foot back, left foot back, and then right foot back again. In doing so, you will make a complete 360 degree turn, facing the same direction in which you started. You can also do it in the other direction if it’s more comfortable: Right foot back, left foot back, right foot, then left foot. Practice it a few times without the Glide and that should make it easier. Next, add in the Glide. Start with the prepped foot. As you push it down, your other leg goes back. As you pull together, you turn, and then prep. The same foot then goes back, push, pull and turn back to the front again. Try it in both directions. Once you get the pattern down, remember to keep yourself as level as possible. Congratulations, you just learned The Glide. Keep on practicing it to the best of your ability. This is Larry, from Happy Camper Live. I’m out!
