Hi, my name is Ryan and I’m your gymnastics counselor here at Happy Camper Live. Today, I’m going to show you jumps. Jumps are not only important for improving your gymnastics skills, but also helps every other sport by developing good strong legs. A big part of gymnastics is psychological, so working through these basic jumps will help with the advanced skills. The first jump we’re going to cover is the stretch jump. You can do this with 4 easy steps. The first step is the start stretch stance. Start with your ankles together, knees locked, and arms stretched tall over our heads. The second step is to bend your legs and bring your hands down, while keeping your chest up tall. The third step is to raise your arms up and jump. Step four is the same as number two, after you land. One of the most important things to remember is to have no movement on your landing. The next jump is the tuck jump. When you do this jump, you want to keep your knees as tight to your tummy as you can. You don’t want to lift your heels to your bottom. The steps are the same as the stretch jump except for step number 3 where you will focus on pulling your knees up as you jump. The straddle jump is next. This one can be a bit harder, because you’ll need stronger legs to get them all the way up in the air. Like the tuck jump, the only thing that changes is step number 3. For the straddle jump, you want to pull your legs up and out as high as you can. The next jump is the half turn jump. The half turn jump is the exact same as the stretch jump, except that when you get to the top of your jump you turn. When doing the turn, it helps to look at the top corners of the room you are in. This will help you keep your chest up nice and tall. If you are looking down, your chest is going to go down. The last jump is the full turn. This is the same as the half turn, except you jump all the way around, facing back in the direction where you started. Practice ten a day and you’ll look like me in a week.
